Law Enforcement
NLC works closely with law enforcement partners Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), as well as non-governmental organizations, to raise awareness of the dangers of drug-impaired driving. We are committed to supporting their efforts through roadside checks during long weekends and holidays and creating awareness of zero tolerance for impaired driving.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
A long-time supporter of MADD Canada’s mission and programs, NLC currently hosts 15 charity ATMs in its stores with a portion of the service fee going to MADD Canada to help raise awareness about the dangers of driving impaired. As a Provincial Sponsor of MADD’s School Assembly Program, NLC makes it possible for MADD Canada to deliver presentations to schools throughout the province annually. This program brings high-energy drug and alcohol impaired driving awareness and risk reduction messaging to the world of education. For more information visit Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
NLC’s Responsible Choices Program
NLC’s Social Responsibility program, "Responsible Choices", demonstrates the dangers of impaired driving in a safe and controlled environment. Participants wear goggles that emulate various degrees of impairment while attempting to perform a variety of tasks including: opening a pad lock with a key; throwing/catching a tennis ball; walking a standard sobriety line; and operating a mobile cart through a series of pylons and traffic signals. By experiencing the potentially deadly consequences of being impaired while they are sober and safe, participants effectively understand the impact of the choices that they make.
